Christening in Yerevan: The Ceremony, What to Bring, Where to Celebrate
An Armenian christening has two parts: the baptism itself, at a real church, and the feast afterward. This page covers both — what the ceremony involves, what a family actually brings, and the vendors who are on record photographing or hosting one.
Start planning this christeningThe ceremony
The priest anoints the child with holy muron (chrism) and gives a first taste of communion — wine-soaked bread — right at the altar. Tradition holds off on the child's first full bath until the third day after baptism, so the muron stays on the skin, and on kissing the baby until after that bath. The full guide — what to bring, what to expect, and 31 real churches across Armenia — is on our Armenian Church page.
What to bring
A white towel kept just for the baptism, an Armenian-style cross on a chain, candles, a bottle of wine, and the narod — a red-and-white thread cord. Our full checklist, and a request form for a ready-made ceremony kit, is on the Armenian Church page.
